FBC Welcomes New Ministers
Welcome, Katie and John Callaway!
First Baptist Church of High Point is excited to announce the addition of two new ministerial staff members. In mid-August, we’ll welcome John Callaway as our new Minister of Students and Media, and Katie Schlimmer Callaway as our new Minister of Spiritual Formation, pictured with their beautiful daughter Sophie. It’s a great day in High Point!
More about Rev. Katie Callaway:
Katie Callaway is coming home to High Point to minister at First Baptist Church. Having grown up in High Point, Katie is a graduate of High Point Central and is excited to be a part of the growth that is coming to High Point and First Baptist Church. She most recently served as an Associate Pastor at University Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland where she focused on creating and nurturing a church-wide small group program.
After High Point Central, Katie attended Roanoke College where she majored in Religious Studies and played soccer. Upon graduation, she completed two graduate programs. At Wake Forest University School of Divinity, she completed her Master of Divinity and at Emory University, she completed her Master of Theology. It was during her time at Wake Forest that Katie met John and shortly thereafter, they married.
Katie has worked in churches throughout the southeast, primarily focusing on spiritual formation. She feels called to help congregations develop vibrant spiritual formation programs and practices by walking alongside people as they embrace holy curiosity and faith exploration.
Katie and John have one child, Sophie, who was born in Baltimore, Maryland. They are excited about putting down roots in High Point for their family. They also have a four-legged child named Lily, a lovable German Shepherd. In their spare time, they love going on family adventures together.
More about Rev. John Callaway
John Callaway comes to First Baptist Church by way of University Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Since the Carolinas are where John received his call to ministry and where he was raised, he is extremely excited about heading “home” to minister alongside the congregants of First Baptist Church. Boiling Springs, South Carolina is where John grew up, but with its proximity to the North Carolina line, he spent a lot of time in the Tarheel State.
After graduating from Clemson University in 2005 with an undergraduate degree in Industrial Education, John completed a Master of Secondary Education degree in 2007. John taught in the North Charleston/Goose Creek area of South Carolina at Westview Middle School for two years before answering the call to ministry and heading to the Wake Forest University School of Divinity.
While studying at Wake Forest, John met Katie Schlimmer and life took off! After serving at First Baptist Church, Greenville, South Carolina, John and Katie have ministered together at First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Georgia and University Baptist Church in Baltimore. In each congregation, John has worked with both youth and college students and feels called to continue in student ministry. Since 2007, John has been involved in leading the music at Unidiversity Youth Camp and has led in music for worship in churches and for student groups across the country.
John is ready to begin ministering alongside the wonderful people of First Baptist Church and begins work in this new vocational ministry with a strong excitement. He is incredibly grateful for his calling to First Baptist Church High Point and can’t wait for the Callaway family, including their daughter, Sophie, and sweet German Shepherd, Lily, to be home.
