Our Worship

A Participatory experience with blended elements

Our Worship

At First Baptist our worship offers a participatory experience with blended elements. We seek to provide the opportunity for all to encounter the divine by preparing worship and leadership opportunities that include all congregants, regardless of age, gender or race.

Our worship is heartfelt, real and up-lifting. There are no gimmicks planned behind the scenes. We believe worship is a time to give thanks to our Lord, to seek healing, redemption and God's will for our lives.

From the warm welcome of one of our ministers to the quiet dismissal of the Chimes of the Trinity, our worship is focused on proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and celebrating God’s presence in our lives and in this congregation.

Through the various elements of the service, some new and modern, some ageless and ancient, we seek to bring the gathered body of Christ into His presence for a time of shared hope, faith, healing, redemption, commitment and praise. We draw from a wide Christian tradition as we worship Christ with our fellow brothers and sisters throughout the world. We plan our worship according to the seasons of the church year; we use the common lectionary as a guide for scripture readings; we observe Holy days (Ash Wednesday, Pentecost, World Communion Sunday and others) and we celebrate special occasions.

Worship at First Baptist is a participatory experience. We encourage the participation and leadership of people of all ages in our worship. There are opportunities for students and children to take leadership roles in the service such as reading scripture, responsive readings, prayers, and more.

At First Baptist we put into practice what Jesus taught in Mark 10:14-15.

Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.."

We believe that children should be included in our worship services. One way that we help children learn and get more out of their worship experience is by offering a Worship Bag. These bags include a clipboard and notes where children can write or draw their observations of what they see and hear during worship. The bags also include quiet activities to inspire creativity. A sweet treat is also included! Children  benefit greatly from worshipping with their church family, and we hope our Worship Bags are a fun addition a worship experience that will make each child feel welcomed and loved.

As you enter the Sanctuary you will receive a printed bulletin that guides our worship through the singing of hymns, responses, scriptures and the study of God’s Word through the sermon. The service directs us to a time of commitment, whether it is in accepting the invitation to make a public profession of faith, the giving of our tithes and offerings or making a commitment of time and talents for use in God’s kingdom.

Our service concludes with a Commissioning Prayer, which asks God’s blessings on His people as we depart the Sanctuary to share his love and peace to our community. Our worship is a time to fulfill our mission and vision of First Baptist: Living the Gospel everywhere, everyday, everyone.

From the warm welcome of one of our ministers to the quiet dismissal of the Chimes of the Trinity, our worship is focused on proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and celebrating God’s presence in our lives and in this congregation.
