Our Worship

At First Baptist our worship offers a participatory experience with blended elements. We seek to provide the opportunity for all to encounter the divine by preparing worship and leadership opportunities that include all congregants, regardless of age, gender or race.

Our worship is heartfelt, real and uplifting. There are no gimmicks planned behind the scenes. We believe worship is a time to give thanks to our Lord, to seek healing, redemption and God's will for our lives.

From the warm welcome of one of our ministers to the quiet dismissal of the Chimes of the Trinity, our worship is focused on proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and celebrating God’s presence in our lives and in this congregation.

Through the various elements of the service, some new and modern, some ageless and ancient, we seek to bring the gathered body of Christ into His presence for a time of shared hope, faith, healing, redemption, commitment and praise. We draw from a wide Christian tradition as we worship Christ with our fellow brothers and sisters throughout the world. We plan our worship according to the seasons of the church year. We use the common lectionary as a guide for scripture readings. We observe Holy days (Ash Wednesday, Pentecost, World Communion Sunday and others) and we celebrate special occasions.

Worship at First Baptist is a participatory experience. We encourage the participation and leadership of people of all ages in our worship. There are opportunities for students and children to take leadership roles in the service such as reading scripture, responsive readings, prayers, and more.

Children's Ministry

We want every child to know that Jesus loves him or her, and we want to help them grow in their faith for the rest of their lives. At First Baptist, children are active participants in worship. Opportunities to participate in worship include greeting, serving as an acolyte, singing in the children’s choir, speaking, praying, reading scripture, leading responsive readings, taking part in a litany, receiving the offering, sharing, musical, dance or dramatic gifts.

At First Baptist we put into practice what Jesus taught in Mark 10:14-15. Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.." We believe that children should be included in our worship services.

Radiant Club Ministry

The Radiant Club is a ministry of fellowship for adults and their friends. There is a lunch meeting on the second Tuesday of the month, September through June. Following a
catered meal, we enjoy a variety of programs ranging from radio and TV
personalities to entertainment,
inspirational speakers and presentations on health care issues. There is always a bingo game in January and an annual tomato plant giveaway in May!

The group has the opportunity to enjoy a monthly day trip to area attractions, plays, historical sights and museums within a day’s drive.

Twice annually we enjoy overnight trips to the beach, mountains,
and other locations such as New York City, Biltmore House, Pennsylvania Dutch Country, Charleston, Savannah and Christmas shows at Myrtle Beach. Everyone, regardless of age, is invited to enjoy these opportunities for travel and fellowship with Christian friends.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry of First Baptist
Church is an integral part of the church’s goal to live the Gospel everyday and everywhere as we involve believers in service and ministry. Music used in worship is neither an optional extra nor merely
spiritual entertainment. It is an essential part of worship and, therefore, must have integrity and quality appropriate to communicate the message of God and his Son, Jesus Christ. There is a long tradition of musical excellence at First Baptist Church.

We offer singing choirs, handbell choirs and other musical opportunities for preschool children to adults. The First Baptist  Music Ministry is a dynamic, vibrant place to develop and share your musical gifts as a leader in our corporate worship.

Senior Adult Ministry

First Baptist has many activities for Senior Adults. Activities such as a weekly prayer shawl ministry, as well as John's Totes ministry, and even our Radiant Club.

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday at 12:00 noon in the library on the second floor. If you would like to join we would love to have you as our guest!

John's Totes is a ministry started by John in efforts to share the love of God with many of High Point Regional's hospital patients. The bags or totes that are created at the church are given to discharged patients with a handwritten note so they may know someone cares. The totes help discharged patients pack their belongings so they can make the most swift and efficient discharge as possible. John's totes meets in the old dinning room on the first floor every Monday at 9:30 a.m. You are welcomed to be our guest!

There are also many happenings with our Radiant Club Ministry. Most of our Radiant Club members are of the senior adult age but it is not exclusively seniors. If you want to know more about Radiant Club please go to ministries and select Radiant Club.
